Kotoko will on Sunday get the opportunity to avenge the 2-1 defeat
Medeama painfully inflicted on them in the 2015 MTN FA Cup final when
they host them at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a friendly match. Kick
off is 3pm.
The Porcupines lost to the Tarkwa based side amidst refereeing
controversies and unimpressive performance on August 30, 2015 in teh cup
final at the Sekondi Sports Stadium. They have since looked for the
chance for revenge.
A likely duel between the two teams looked possible in the FirsTrust
G-6 tournament but in their semifinal game, Medeama were eliminated by
Aduana Stars who Kotoko beat 1-0 in the final of that mini tournament.
Sunday’s encounter thus gives Kotoko the room to put Medeama in their
rightful position.
Although a friendly game, the reputation of the two clubs will be
stake. For Kotoko whose fine form has been the talking point this
off-season, anything short of victory could raise some questions.
Medeama haven’t fared too well in most of their visits to Kumasi against
Kotoko but they have also not been mincemeat on any occasion.
There’s nothing to show that, Kotoko will walk over them this weekend
even though victory is expected by the ever-expectant Kotoko fans.
Coach David Duncan’s collection of the best players in the last few
months and the performance his team has exhibited have both been hailed.
The date with Medeama even if non-competitive, provides Coach Duncan
and his players a stern test of their resolve to excel.
