According to him, the "independence" and "impartiality" of the electoral body will be key in safeguarding the integrity of the polls which comes off in November.
Ghana goes to the polls on November 7 to elect a president and parliamentary candidates. There have been concerns over the voters register as the main opposition party insists the current register is bloated and unfit for the elections.
The EC has, however, said it will not change the register but will rather clean it to ensure credibility.
Speaking to Nana Aba Anamoah who sat in for regular host Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr on New Year's day, the ex-president urged Ghanaians to vote for the party and a candidate who can efficiently fix the challenges confronting the country.
“… The Electoral Commission for the sake of the nation should do everything to ensure that its independence and impartiality is put to work to give Ghana a credible election that will be respected world over. If they perform this way, this year will turn out to better for the nation.
“…I wish my flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo become the next president of Ghana. I wish that the average Ghanaian citizen will decide thoroughly and vote for the one who can work to solve the problems facing us as a people,” he stated.
He continued: “ Ghanaians should ask themselves which of the two candidates will struggle to reduce the corruption which is so rife in the system now and who will abate the scandals”.
