Ace female highlife musician Akosua Agyapong is asking members of the
Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to “axe” Bice Osei Kuffour, aka Obour
from the presidency in the next elections.
She said members of MUSIGA have not benefitted from his presidency so
he must be voted out in the election slated for next month.
According to her, Obour and his administration have nothing concrete to
show for the GH¢2million government gave to the creative arts industry
in 2012 and a charge of misappropriation may not be far from right.
Akosua Agyapong tells Adom News’ Naa Okailey Mynna that musicians did
not derive any real benefit from the Music Week Obuor and his team claim
to have spent the GHC2million on.
“What I know is the Music Week was organized by the Music Council so Obuor has to account for the GHC2million,” she said.
“We want Obour to open up to the musicians because we don’t know how he
spends our money on things we do not get any real results from,” she
added.
Akosua Agyapong is worried that MUSIGA does not have even one recording
studio to support up and coming artistes who do not have money to pay
for recording.
She said till date MUSIGA has been hiring musical instruments and PA
systems for events, which is an indication of bad leadership because
MUSIGA should have such equipment by now.
“It unfortunate that as a union we don’t have theatre performances, and
our members always have to go and pay heavily to use National Theatre
and Conference Centre for events,” she lamented.
Akosua noted that Obour also failed to plan for the aged musicians who are currently not able to pay for their hospital bills.
“In fact, Obuor is trying to do something I guess but he has proved unreliable enough so he has to be changed,” she said.
